Faroe Islands: Closed for Maintenance Campaign
Taking the leadership position in sustainable tourism MGA Media Group launched the “Closed for Maintenance” campaign for the Faroe Islands. The Nordic nation closed the islands to tourists for one weekend in April 2019 and welcomed 100 volunteers from around the world to join locals in caring for their 18-island archipelago in the North Atlantic. 3,500 people applied to participate in the pilot project to assist in maintenance of ten popular tourist sites identified by local municipalities, tourism centers and villagers. This successful initiative is now an annual event to ensure a more sustainable future for the unspoiled islands.
RESULTS
MGA Media Group generated press on the Faroe Islands’ “Closed for Maintenance” campaign in Afar, Travel + Leisure, Conde Nast Traveler, CNN, MSN, Forbes, Lonely Planet, Skift and more. The campaign generated 566 million UVM and established this tiny archipelago as a leader in sustainable tourism. See case study film: Faroe Islands “Closed for Maintenance”
